History
آبادان در جزیره‌ای بر رودخانه اروندرود واقع شده و از سال ۱۹۱۲ با تأسیس پالایشگاه نفت آبادان توسط شرکت نفت انگلیس و ایران، به یکی از مهم‌ترین بنادر و مراکز صنعت نفت خاورمیانه تبدیل شد. این بندر و پالایشگاهش در جنگ ایران و عراق (۱۹۸۰-۱۹۸۸) به‌شدت آسیب دید و پس از جنگ بازسازی شد.
